The Grosse Pointe Shores Building Department is located on the 2nd floor of the Shores Municipal Building, 795 Lake Shore Road.  Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Applications for All Permits can be obtained at the City offices or by clicking on the appropriate attachment below.

Permits are required for the following:

1. Construction or alteration of any structure
2. Construction of an addition
3. Demolition or moving of a structure
4. Installation or alteration of any electrical, mechanical or plumbing equipment
5. Replacing or repairing a roof
6. Installing or replacing a fence
7. Installing or replacing a driveway

Requirements for application for Building Permit:

1. Two sets of construction plans, signed and scaled.
2. Site plan showing to scale the size and location of all construction and all existing structures on the site, distance from lot lines, established street grades and proposed finish grades.
3. Square footage of existing structures and any additions and calculations showing lot coverage.
4. Detail of structural, mechanical and electrical work.
5. Completed application form.
6. Copy of builders license.

Required Planning Commission Review:

1. Plans for appearance changes or accessory buildings which are referred to the Commission by the Village Manager.
2. Plans for new construction, reconstruction, additions, remodeling, or alteration of any principal structure, or of any accessory structure greater than 120 square feet which requires a building permit.
3. Plans for new construction or substantial changes of fences, walls hedges, berms and landscaping in the required front yard.
4. Changes not in compliance with, or deviations from, the development standards in sections 40-172 and 40-173 of The City Code of Ordinances.
