The Grosse Pointe Shores Building Department is located on the 2nd floor of the Shores Municipal Building, 795 Lake Shore Road. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Applications for All Permits can be obtained at the City offices or by clicking on the appropriate attachment below.
Permits are required for the following:
- Construction or alteration of any structure
- Construction of an addition
- Demolition or moving of a structure
- Installation or alteration of any electrical, mechanical or plumbing equipment
- Replacing or repairing a roof
- Installing or replacing a fence
- Installing or replacing a driveway
Requirements for application for Building Permit:
- Two sets of construction plans, signed and scaled.
- Site plan showing to scale the size and location of all construction and all existing structures on the site, distance from lot lines, established street grades and proposed finish grades.
- Square footage of existing structures and any additions and calculations showing lot coverage.
- Detail of structural, mechanical and electrical work.
- Completed application form.
- Copy of builders license.
Required Planning Commission Review:
- Plans for appearance changes or accessory buildings which are referred to the Commission by the Village Manager.
- Plans for new construction, reconstruction, additions, remodeling, or alteration of any principal structure, or of any accessory structure greater than 120 square feet which requires a building permit.
- Plans for new construction or substantial changes of fences, walls hedges, berms and landscaping in the required front yard.
- Changes not in compliance with, or deviations from, the development standards in sections 40-172 and 40-173 of The City Code of Ordinances.
