 Bruce R. Nichols, City Clerk

 Bruce R. Nichols began serving as City Clerk in December of 2011. He is an Attorney practicing in real estate, wills and trusts, litigation, construction and business law and acts as a General Civil Mediator in the Michigan Court System. Bruce is a life-long resident of the Detroit area and has served on the City of Detroit Board of Zoning Appeals and the Grosse Pointe Woods Board of Tax Review. He is married to Mary Ann and they have three children. He and his family have lived in Grosse Pointe Shores for ten years.

Voting Information
You are qualified to vote if:
You are a citizen of the United States.
You are 18 years of age.
You are a resident of the state of Michigan for 30 days.
You are registered in the City.

Absentee Voting Procedure
Any registered voter who cannot go to the polls because of physical disability or absence from the City or by reason of being 60 years of age or older may apply either in person,by mail or fax to the City Clerk as early as 75 days before and up to 2:00 p.m. of the Saturday preceding an election for an Absentee Ballot. The ballot must be returned by mail or in person to the Clerk in sufficient time so that it can be counted in the precinct by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.

Note: Absentee ballot applications may also be made by written request. The request must include your signature.

How to Register for Voting
Apply in person during regular business hours to the City Clerk office or at your local Secretary of State Office. The thirtieth (30th) day preceding an election is the deadline for registering to vote in that election. Moving, even within the Pointes, requires re-registration, as does a change of name.

IN ACCORDANCE WITH FEDERAL REGULATIONS, IF YOU ARE A NEWLY REGISTERED VOTER AND YOU REGISTERED BY MAIL YOU MUST VOTE IN PERSON IN YOUR FIRST ELECTION. IF YOU REGISTERED THROUGH THE SECRETARY OF STATE YOU MAY WISH TO CONFIRM YOUR REGISTRATION WITH THE CITY OFFICE.  DON'T FORGET THAT YOU NOW NEED A PHOTO ID IF VOTING AT THE POLLS!

Grosse Pointe Shores voters vote at the following locations
Wayne County residents: Grosse Pointe Shores Municipal Building, 795 Lake Shore Road.
Macomb County residents : Edsel & Eleanor Ford House - Gate House, 1100 Lake Shore Road.
Voting Poll Hours for all Elections: 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The above are all voting poll locations for the City, State and National elections. In contrast, ALL Grosse Pointe Shores voters vote at the GPS Municipal Building in City elections. If you have any questions regarding election procedures, please call (313) 881-6565
