Master Plan Final Draft and Update
MASTER PLAN UPDATE
The City's current Master Land Use Plan ("Master Plan") was adopted in 1991. As the community has seen relatively minor changes over the years, the Master Plan has been reviewed without the need for a complete update. However, changes in regional environment, housing preferences and market conditions suggested that the City, through the Planning Commission, evaluate its existing conditions and policies regarding housing in an effort to preserve and maintain the high quality of life enjoyed by residents of the community for future generations.
The Planning Commission began holding public meetings on updating the Master Plan back in February 2007. The result of their labor is the proposed 2009 Master Plan. This Master Plan is the product of data collection and analysis which consists of text, charts, maps and analysis regarding issues currently within and foreseen in the community. Further, the Master Plan examines existing conditions, identifies the goals of the community and provides recommended methods for achieving these goals. Finally, the policies contained within the 2009 Master Plan provide the basis for the City's Zoning Map and Zoning Ordinance that provide the regulations for the City.
In June, City Council authorized the distribution of the proposed Master Plan to adjacent communites and other stakeholders as required by law and to signify the start of the required 63 day review and feedback period. At the end of the review period the Planning Commission held a public hearing to receive feedback from the community. At it's September 1st meeting, the Planning Commission recommended adoption of the proposed Master Plan to City Council. A second public hearing was held at the September 15th City Council Meeting and a Resolution of City Council Approving and Adopting Amended and Restated Master Land Use Plan was enacted. Copies of the Master Plan are available below or at the City offices, 795 Lake Shore Road.
