The Grosse Pointe Shores Department of Public Safety is located on the first floor of the GPS Municipal Building, 795 Lake Shore Road. Director of Public Safety:  Stephen T. Poloni.

A brief history: The Grosse Pointe Shores Department of Public Safety was created in 1911, with the incorporation of the Village. It was the first police and fire service in the nation to be combined as one department, and now the first to be triple-trained: Police, Fire and Paramedic.

With a department of 18 officers (including the Director), eleven of our Public Safety Officers are Paramedic certified. The remaining officers, including the Command Officers, are certified Emergency Medical Technicians. New officers are all expected to be certified as Paramedics in order to better serve the residents of our community.

Together with the other five Pointe communities and Harper Woods, we share a radio system and participate in a mutual aid system that supports one another when needed. Our department is open 24 hours daily.
