Kenneth Werenski was promoted to Chief on January 27, 2021, after a 28-year career in the Grosse Pointe Shores Public Safety Department.  Chief Werenski was hired in the Grosse Pointe Shores Public Safety Department on December 18, 1992, as a Public Safety Officer.  In June of 1996, Chief Werenski was promoted to the rank Sergeant where he assumed the position of Patrol Supervisor overseeing the road patrol operations.  In December of 2012, Chief Werenski was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and where his role changed to Patrol Commander.  As Patrol Commander Chief Werenski took the initiatives from the Directors office and implement those directives to the uniform division where he ran the Day-to-Day Operations of the department.   During those 28 years of service in the uniform, Kenneth was the recipient of three Department Commendations, three Unit Commendations, two Certificates of Merit, and twice earning the Life Saving Award in 2014 and 2020.  Director Werenski has a bachelor's degree of Science from Madonna University in Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement. Chief Werenski is a certified Police Officer, Fire Fighter and licensed EMT. Kenneth and his wife Kristen live in Grosse Pointe Woods and have two sons. Brad, who is employed by Fisher Dynamics and Zach, who is a professional hockey player for the Columbus Blue Jackets.
